Clumberdoodle Archie’s Family Day Out
A couple of our younger family members were on holiday down in Devon and Archie was invited over to see them. Since we had him they have been his number one fans and every time they come down from their homes in Yorkshire they always want to see him and get very excited.
They really would like a dog of their own (but Mum and Dad not so keen just yet) so thought it might be a good idea to give them insight into what owning and looking after a dog involves, (which might change their minds!!).
We arrived at Brixham where Freya and Bethany were staying at their grandparents house and Archie was greeted with 3 lovely portraits of Archie that the girls had drawn.
After the initial excitement of meeting him again and him showing them his latest tricks and be showered with treats whilst they replicated his tricks we all went out for a walk at Berry Head National Nature Reserve. This is a super coastal walk with a panoramic view out to sea.
We thought now was a good time to initiate Freya (the eldest of the two sisters) an important part of owning a dog – picking up pooh. She was very reluctant, but said that this is something she would have to do.
So Archie obliged his part and I gave her a pooh bag to clean it up. It did not go too well and she said that the bag had a hole in it and Mum (luckily) had a wet wipe in her handbag!!! I think this worked towards changing her mind as she was not willing to clean up any more!!
They then both took turns in using the ball thrower for Archie to chase his tennis ball.
When he had to go on his lead they naturally wanted to hold it and Archie behaved very well.
A couple more tricks and treats at the edge of the cliff!!
We then stopped for lunch at the Guardhouse Café which has tables outside and inside and is totally dog friendly. Good hot food and lovely homemade cakes. A super spot to enjoy the view and I can thoroughly recommend it.
Archie did get a little wet as we had a shower whilst out walking so when we got back to Nan and Grandad’s house the girls tried their hands at blow drying Archie with his pet blaster.
It was then more play time with Archie which included him being massaged which he seemed to enjoy before it was time to say our farewells and travel back home.
Archie had been on the go all day and thoroughly enjoyed his day out but I think he was rather pleased to get back in the car to catch up on some much needed sleep!!!

Lovely day out and they look so pleased to see him. Loved the ‘lessons’ story and responsibilities of pooh patrol 🤣👍
Nice story👍

Hi Mike
Glad you enjoyed it. Owning a dog is not all fun there are the smelly bits aswell, but hope it has not put the girls off in having one in the future.

Hello, we’ve been looking for a cockapoo for a long time and have actually just come across some clumberdoodles, I was wondering if he is much bigger than a cockapoo. Thanks in advance
Hello Leah
Thank you for your comment. I can only answer relating to Archie, but yes he is bigger than a Cockapoo. When he was a puppy everyone thought he was a Cockapoo but when fully grown you can see the difference and I am quite often asked “what is he?”. He is stockier than a Cockapoo which reflects the Clumber Spaniel in him which is the heaviest and stockiest spaniel breed. To give you some indication Archie weighs 25kg where a Cockapoo’s weight can vary quite a lot, but the largest probably no more than 16 kg (but don’t quote me on that). Archie is a lovely manageable size and is a super crossbreed.
If you would like to ask any more questions, please feel free to email me direct.
