Muddy Dog Needs A Mud Daddy. Archie the Clumberdoodle definitely becomes a muddy dog out on his walks and needs a Mud Daddy to help with the cleaning when he comes home. Archie is definitely a mud magnet due to his thick fur but any dog owner should have one of these.
Even in the height of summer Archie manages to find some of mud and I am sure even in the desert he would stumble across some mud somewhere (really I am not joking). Now he hates the hosepipe and there is no way we can get him anywhere near one so after nearly every walk it was a sponge and bucket to wash the mud off.
Enter Mud Daddy a fantastic portable washing device that is environmentally friendly as it uses no power or electric. As stated above Archie hates the hosepipe so we were not sure if he would be okay with a Mud Daddy, but after some gentle persuasion he was absolutely fine.
Just fill the container with cold or warm water, use the hand pump and then the water is pumped through a short hose into the shower head brush. The mud just washes off as the pressure of the water combined with the brush cleans the fur as it forces the muddy water away – brilliant. You can also add some shampoo to make your pooch smell nice, particularly if they do not like going in the bath.
Now I have had my Mud Daddy for years and when I purchased it, it came with the hand pump, however now they have added a battery powered attachment. I purchased one of these and this it makes it so much easier (no more hand pumping required)
Ideal also for filling up with hot water (which will keep warm for a good few hours) and take it in the car with you to wash the mud off your pooches and then just a quick towel dry to get rid of the excess water before they get back in. So when they shake, as they all do, when they jump into the car this will eliminate muddy water flying everywhere. Also you can clean your muddy boots or shoes off at the same time.
I purchased my Mud Daddy a few years ago and they now have lots of other colours, sizes, different designs and many more accessories so please see their website.
Not only for use on dogs, but horses and anything that gets muddy really eg bikes, shoes, car wheels, golf clubs, garden tools your hands and even muddy children!!!

Here is a video to show you how it works on Archie’s muddy legs, paws and tummy. It also comes in handy to actually clean the mud off his dog coat that he wears when it is raining, as that gets muddy too!!! This video was taken today 12th January 2020. We are very lucky where we live as we have access up a farm track to Dartmoor. The only trouble is in the winter (and also in the summer when we have rain) this track gets very muddy.
However unfortunately with Archie this is not where the cleaning stops as then has to be towelled off to get the surface water off so he is not allowed in the house until the rest of the drying process is complete. I then have to use a powerful pet blaster (which I would recommend to any dog owner whose dog has a thick coat) to dry his very thick coat and then a gentler hair dryer to do his face. Please see the video below.

PAWNOTE
If you do consider buying a similar breed of dog like Archie, I will warn you that their coats are very high maintenance. Usually after a walk in the winter from the time Archie arrives home to the time he is allowed indoors can take in excess of 30 minutes but can be longer if they are due a trip to the professional groomer. That obviously will depend where you walk, but just be warned. In addition to daily brushing and combing to stop his fur from matting and of course regular trips to the groomer for clipping (unless you do it yourself, which is easier said than done) please think very carefully before taking on this type of dog, as it is hard work.

We also have a Doggy Bag which is ideal for putting a muddy and wet Archie into the car which I would highly recommend. Just zip him up give him a quick rub and by the time you get home he should be a lot drier and cleaner. Read my post about this here
