Why I Bought A Pawhut Dog Grooming Table
Archie my Clumberdoodle has a thick coat which needs a lot of maintenance. Not only daily brushing to avoid his coat matting (which if you have a poodle cross in particular you will know what I mean). Also his coat is a mud magnet so after nearly every walk he has to be washed off with the Mud Daddy and then dried. I have to kneel down on the floor which is not ideal when you are of a certain age or have back problems, which I do. Getting down is okay, it is the getting up that is a problem. I thought that getting a grooming table would ease the back ache as Archie would be at an easy workable height. He is nearly 4 years old and I have struggled over these years so decided that a grooming table might be the answer.
Why I Bought A Pawhut Dog Grooming Table
So I ordered a table and it arrived on 4th March 2021.
As I have now used the table for a few days, I thought it might help other dog owners who are thinking of purchasing one to let you know how I am getting on with it. I obviously can only refer to this particular table and it is of course my own personal but truthful opinion.
I trawled through the internet and decided that the PawHut Metal Adjustable Dog Grooming Table Rubber Top 2 Safety Slings was the one I went for. This was only going to be for home use and therefore fairly basic, so I did not need something that would be used in a professional dog grooming salon. This one was a good price and seemed to be just what I wanted.
WHY THIS PARTICULAR ONE?
There are many different tables to choose from and of course ranging in price. I just wanted a basic table for use at home. This particular one seemed to do fit the criteria I was looking for and at a reasonable price. It is suitable for dogs up to 100kg, so as Archie is around 25k it would be fine.
Some tables have just one arm with a sling but I decided that the “H” bar would be better for a larger dog as it seems to be more sturdy and stable.
This particular table has a non slip surface that comes in either black or blue. You will see that the black one is a little more expensive than the blue which apparently is down to the actual non slip material that is used. I went for the black one which is purely down to personal preference but a non slip surface is a must.
It also comes with a wire basket underneath the table, which is not essential but is very handy for keeping dryers and brushes and combs in.
HOW TO GET YOUR DOG UP ON ONE
Little dogs can easily be lifted on to a table, but obviously larger dogs if too heavy to lift need some help and so do you. No dog should jump straight on to the table from the floor so please think about how they will get up there in the first instance, as the table is quite high. As you can see from the photograph that I have sited the table in my boot/dog room right next to a chest which holds our walking boots and shoes, an ideal step and from here . Archie just walks up on the table.
I doubt whether most people would have have a boot chest, but you can buy some little steps or a ramp to help them get up onto the table. Of course if you can actually lift your dog up then of course it is easy.
HOW SECURE IS THE DOG
There are two safety slings which hang from the “H” bar which the position can be altered by unclipping and moving the slings into the H” bar fixing holes of which there are 4 by each sling. You only need to use one sling at one time by putting it around the dog’s neck or if you want the dog to be more secure you can then secure the 2nd one around his back legs. Of course you just turn the dog around and fix him the other end to do the other side.
USING THE PET BLASTER
The “H” bar can be adjusted to whatever height is best for your dog. However, do not leave any dog unattended as they could try to jump down from the table and be strangled
DID ARCHIE MIND USING IT?
Archie does go to a professional dog groomer on a regular basis, so he is quite used to one of these tables, but it might take those who are not used to one, a little bit of persuasion to get used to being high up. Archie loves it and gets on and off it very easily and is quite happy and relaxed when he is on it.
BRUSHING AND COMBING
PRACTICALITY
This particular table is of a reasonable size so it does need quite a bit of room. We do have a dog and boot room and therefore have room to keep the table up all the time. However if you do not have the room to keep it up all the time then it can be dismantled for storage and then just re-assemble it when you need it. It is fairly simple but it is heavy. It does state that it is portable (which I would use this word loosely). We were thinking of actually taking it with us if we went on holiday, as Archie still needs daily grooming etc but in a normal car it would not be practical as it would take up too much room.
As stated above it is very heavy when fully erected but this is a good thing as it is nice and stable. I was a bit sceptical as to how good this table would be, but I have to say it is well worth the money. Of course there are many different retailers who sell this particular table, all at different prices, but look out for discounts or special offers as I ended up paying just over £83.00 which I think was excellent value.
WOULD I RECOMMEND USING A GROOMING TABLE?
Well, what a difference it has made and wondered why I waited nearly 4 years to get one. Life is so much easier and I would definitely recommend one to anyone who’s dog’s coat needs a lot of maintenance, or if like me, you are getting on a bit as it saves all the kneeling and bending at awkward angles which can alleviate getting back pain.
If you actually clip your dog at home it makes that a lot easier when the dog is higher up and you can get to the legs a lot easier, especially when scissoring when the angle is so much better than trying to do it knelt on the floor.
As I have said there are lots of different grooming tables on the market, but this one is absolutely fine for my purpose and think that I made the right choice.
I bought mine through eBay.co.uk and the below image link will take you to eBay where you can view the current selection for sale.(affiliate link so we may get a small commission if you buy through this link).

Your post was very helpful!
Interesting about the different how the colour difference because it’s a different material.
I’m just wondering how the table is holding up?
I’m looking to purchase the same one.

Hello Cynthia
I am glad my post was helpful. As you can see from my post it was purchased in 2021 and it is still going strong. It gets used every day and sometimes more so it gets a lot of use. i wouldn’t be without it as when you get to a certain age bending down can be a problem so this table is brilliant. As you will also see from my post that we do have a box next to it so Archie can access it easily as it is a bit high for a dog to jump up on off it. You can purchase one which you can lower and raise but these are vey expensive. This does the job and I am very pleased with it.
Regards
Karen
