Clumberdoodle Archie’s 5th Birthday April 2022

It has been quite a while since I last did a blog post so decided that as our dog Archie the Clumberdoodle turned 5 on the 2nd April 2022 it was a good time to put fingers to keyboard.

I know we are daft but we do celebrate his birthday, complete with presents and birthday cake.

The day started with a lay in (although Archie is never any hurry to get up in the mornings). Now he does sleep in our bedroom on the floor where he has a choice of a rug, one of his beds or his cool mat. However in the morning our bed gets pawed which is the indication that Archie wants to come up on our bed for his morning cuddle.  He will paw the bed to ask for his cover to be put on (to protect our quilt cover) so I have to get out and go and get it.  Once it is on the bed that signifies to him that it is okay to jump up.

He never gets up until at least 8.30 a.m.  any morning and  Any earlier and he is not happy.

Then our Son, Adrian Archie’s best buddy (and brother from another Mother!!) in all the World came over complete with a carrier bag of presents.

First the birthday cards opened and then a pile of presents was put in front of Archie for him to unwrap, which he loves and has a brilliant technique of ripping the wrapping paper off and spitting it out all over the floor until he gets to the present.

All his presents eventually opened which included some balls, an antler bone (which he loves) and cuddly toys.

Then after the present opening it was the birthday cake (recipe below)  and the obligatory “Happy Birthday”.  Yes, I know we are daft, but Archie is a much loved member of the family, so why should his birthday should also be celebrated.

Doggy Birthday Cake Recipe

1 Egg
1/4 cup peanut butter (make sure it does not contain Xylitol, which is deadly to dogs, but thankfully most peanut butters do not contain this additive).  Plus extra for the topping
1/4 cup cooking oil
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/3 cup of honey (optional)
1 cup shredded carrots
1 cup of whole wheat flour or white flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 cooked sausage sliced

Method
Heat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C)

Grease a 6 ring mould ring, or 2 smaller ones, or a loaf tin (basically anything you have in the cupboard)

In a large mixing bowl, combine the egg, peanut butter, vanilla essence, honey and oil.  Add the carrots and then sift the flour and baking soda and add to the mixture.

Spoon it into the prepared tin and bake for about 40 minutes  

Once cold spread the top with peanut butter and decorate with the sliced sausage 

It was then out for a nice birthday walk (which included a float in the River Erme) and then another piece of birthday cake.
