Talland Bay Hotel Cornwall May 2026 2nd Visit
It was our 48th Wedding Anniversary on 20th May 2026 and we decided to go back to the very quirky Talland Bay Hotel just outside of Looe Cornwall. We do not normally go back to stay in a hotel twice but we had such an enjoyable stay in the Talland Bay Hotel Cornwall in 2025 (press link to see the photos of the main rooms in the hotel as I won’t be duplicating them in this post) we decided to return and celebrate (or commiserate on Steve’ s behalf putting up with me for that length of time).
We just booked for a one night stay and opted for the 9 course tasting menu with a paired wine flight which sounded really good.
As the hotel is not that far from our home we left early afternoon on the 20th May 2026. We were welcomed with a warm greeting from the General Manager and a glass of fruity sparkling water and he showed us to our room called The Bennett. This was a lovely bright and airy room with dual aspect windows with one overlooking the gardens and having a beautiful sea view. Take note of the photograph of the tree sculpture which is brilliant.
We made a cup of coffe and ate the supplied homemade shortbread biscuits which were very nice and sat on the comfy chairs looking out to sea.
Just a couple of photos of us when we arrived and just before going down to dinner.

The evening started in the bar with a G & T and canapes.
Then we were shown to our table in the restaruant which was right by the window with a sea view. There was a very nice personal touch and that was the table had been sprinkled with table confetti together with a little anniversary card,

Five of the courses were paired with a wine and the General Manager explained why each wine had been paired to each course and we have to say he was very knowledgable and it was very interesting.
The courses:-
1st course the canapes with a G & T
2nd course Heritage Tomato

3rd course Beef Short Rib
Paired with Pinot Noir 2022 (St Austell Cornwall) Both Steve and I liked this wine very much
4th course Steve had the Pastrami Cured Salmon and as I do not eat fish I had English Asparagus
Paired with Hattinbgley Valley Brut (Hampshire England)
5th course Rump of Lamb
Paired with Bonterra Organic Vineyards, Zinfandel 2022 (California US)
6th course Pre Dessert Passionfruit and Coconut

7th course Lemon Cheesecake
Paired with Moscato d’Asti, Oncucco DOCG (Asti Italy)
8th course Blue Cheese on Toast
Paired with La GitanaOloroso Cream Alameda (Jerez Spain) which was a sort of sherry
9th course Coffee & Petit Fours with Steve having an added glass of brandy
Each course was delicious but a first was achieved for me as I am not a dessert person but my favourite course was the 7th course the lemon cheesecake and the wine it was paired with was also my favourite. A very memorable meal which lasted just under 3 hours.
21st May 2026
A good night’s sleep apart from the noise of the Crows which started early in the mornng. It was then down to enjoy a full cornish breakfasf to end our anniversary stay.

We really enjoyed our stay and I can be very critical, but I have to say I could not find anything wrong with anything, and I have to say we probably will go back for a 3rd visit as this is such a quirky hotel with an excellent restaurant and lovely staff.
