Christmas Donkeys at Tesco
I decided to put my name down to help with a promotional stand at Tesco on Thursday 8th December 2011. Although not bag packing this time, myself, two members of staff and two of the donkeys Garth and Vicky from the EST (Elizabeth Svendsen Trust for Children and Donkeys) Ivybridge Branch set up our stand at the Tesco store at Lee Mill, near Ivybridge, to raise some money for the Centre.
It was an awful day weather wise, with wind and rain so we had to set up under the gazebo, but this did not stop lots of shoppers coming over to pet the donkeys and to chat to us about the centre and the work that we do. They very generously deposited their change in our collection boxes, and even a couple of shoppers gave us bags of carrots that they had bought whilst they were in the shop, which went down a treat with the two donkeys.
Garth and Vicky were the two donkeys chosen on this occasion for a day out (as there are 18 donkeys at the centre so they have to take it in turns) and looked very festive in their little red and fake fur lined coats and their little Santa hats which are specially made for them and lapped up all the attention. Garth seemed to enjoy his day out at Tesco, as he was very interested every time the lad who collected the train of trolleys walked past, he would ignore everyone else and go and stand glued to the trolleys, and then once they had all been stacked up, joined us again.
