Sea Of Poppies At The Tower Of London

Sea Of Poppies At The Tower Of London
What a stunning sight

My husband, Steve and I  thought about going to see the “Sea of Poppies” for quite a while, but when a coach trip was advertised in our local paper we decided to book it, even though a coach trip was not something we relished, but thought it was the only way that we would actually get to London to see this  from our home in Devon.  It also took in a trip to the Imperial War Museum, which Steve was also looking forward  to seeing (although we had been there many years ago) but he was interested in seeing the World War I exhibition.

Tax Disc Holder A Novel Way To Still Use It

Tax Disc Holder A Novel Way To Still Use ItAs everyone knows as from the 1st October 2014 the tax is now obsolete, so no doubt millions of actual tax holders will be thrown away BUT WAIT!!!   If like me, you purchased the tax disc holder to go with the car, what a shame to get rid of it.

I bought a red Fiat 500 one which shows a cartoon looking Fiat 500 which faces inside the car and it does look cute, so what a waste to no longer have it fixed to my windscreen. [Read more…] about Tax Disc Holder A Novel Way To Still Use It

Hearing Dog Puppy Mabel The Golden Labrador Comes To Stay

Mabel The Golden Labrador Hearing Dog Puppy Comes to Stay
This is the beautiful Mabel posing in her boat

Well after the previous hearing dog we had to stay who was very calm and quiet, Mabel the whirlwind arrived on 3rd September.  She was a large  5 month old golden Labrador who certainly made her presence known as soon as she bounded in the front door.  Like all the puppies she  came complete with crate, toys, food etc etc and took over our house immediately.  She was very very excited and was only here for about 10- minutes when she decided to christen the carpet, fall through the mesh of our small fish pond and race around the garden as fast as she could.  She continued her crazy manic behaviour for a good few hours, just stopping for her tea, and didn’t really quieten down until she went to bed.  After protesting for a few minutes she eventually went quiet and we didn’t hear a peep from her until 8.00 a.m the following morning – not surprising really, she must have been exhausted. Lemon Drizzle Cake With Lemon Buttercream Filling

Lemon Drizzle Cake With Lemon Buttercream Filling
My Lemon Drizzle Cake

I thought I would make a lemon drizzle cake so looked for some good recipes and had a go.  My first attempt was pretty good, although the frosting topping did not work very well, as the recipe I used was not very clear, so basically there was no crunch and very very tart at the top of the cake.

I am a bit of a perfectionist so I wanted to have another go (hubby very pleased as he has a very sweet tooth!!), and followed a different recipe with regards to the topping.  I then decided also to try it with a lemon buttercream filling, which I have to say added to the flavour.  However, for my 3rd attempt I went one step further and added some lemon curd in addition to the lemon buttercream.  This was a real success so here is my recipe so please give it a go, and I am sure it will be a favourite with all the family.  [Read more…] about Lemon Drizzle Cake With Lemon Buttercream Filling

My husband Steve is really into green energy, solar power and electric vehicles. The benefit to me is the reduced household energy bills as a result of his obsession. One thing I know he is pleased with in particular is Octopus Energy. As well as great customer service and some really good tariffs they also have a referral scheme where new customers get £50 when switching from their existing energy supplier. Its free to get a quote to see if you can save money too. Just click the link below.
