EST Ivybridge Donkey Quiz Night – For Humans
The PFA (Parents and Friends Association) who support the Ivybridge Branch of the Elizabeth Svendsen Trust for Children and Donkeys (EST) with their fundraising and fun events throughout the year organised the annual Quiz Night which was held on Saturday 3rd March 2012 which was the first event for 2012. It took place in the indoor arena at the centre.
Myself, my husband and two of our friends, Jock and Heather, decided to have an evening out for some brain workout and the four of us formed a team. There were around 20 teams who took part and we were sat at table number 13!!! Was it lucky or unlucky for us – please read on.
The quiz consisted of 5 rounds of 20 general knowledge questions in each round, plus a fun non counting bonus round which featured a page of different donkeys from each of the EST centres around the UK, which we had to identify the heads with the multiple choice of names at the side, a bit like a Donkey Identity Parade! Now being a volunteer at the Ivybridge centre, I should have at least managed to put the correct name to the correct donkey who are based at Ivybridge. But no – I did get two right, but one of my favourity donkeys Eeyore, I did not pick out. I have to say in my defence though, that the photograph used definitely did not look like Eeyore, he has a white nose, but the photograph did not, and that is why I thought it was not him. Either my eyes let me down, or this was a photo of an imposter!!!! Needless to say, the others were a guess and we did not do very well at all.
There were two cardboard cut outs of donkeys heads mounted on a pole, one was placed on the table that was currently in the lead after each round, and the other one placed on the table that was last after each round. There must have been some serious quizzers who took part, as the same table had the winning donkey head at their table from round one. This is a clue here, as to how our table got on. However our table didn’t get the losing donkey head at any time, so I suppose that was some consolation. The final scores were, 1st place had 89 points (see what I mean), 2nd had 74 points, and our table managed to score 63. We did have a few cups of wine (except poor Heather who was the driver) throughout the evening, so am not sure whether that helped or hindered us!!! And being on table 13 was obviously another reason why we didn’t do so well!!!
EST Ivybridge Donkey Quiz Night – For Humans – It was a good fun night out and everyone enjoyed it. Will put a note in my diary for next year, so will have a full 12 months to start absorbing all things general knowledge in readiness – I play to win, not just to take part!!!!!
