Henry My Diet And Fitness Aid
Now when Rolfe left us, for his potential police life, I felt that as he helped me to lose over a stone and half, just from walking, I need to carry this on. I knew that if no dog was involved the commitment would not be there, and any excuse not to go out, meant that I would never go out, and all the pounds that I had lost would soon pile back on. I don’t do gyms or other forms of exercise, as that seems such a waste of time, but actually going out for a walk, with a dog is a far more pleasant way to shed the pounds and get fit.
As Steve and I decided that we were not going to have a dog of our own, I needed to find one to walk. We have a neighbour who has a lovely golden retriever, called Henry and I just asked them a few days after left if they were looking for anyone to walk him, didn’t think for one minute that they did. To my surprise and pleasure, they were only too pleased, as Tuesdays and Thursdays were difficult for them to take him out. So although it wasn’t every day, just to go out for a long walk twice a week was better than nothing.
Henry is about 7 years old and is very much a gentleman and is extremely well behaved and is very obedient, so he is an absolute pleasure to take out. I have been taking out for nearly 2 years now, and comes bounding out of his house, when I go to collect him, so hopefully he is enjoying it.
Henry has actually come to stay with us on the the odd few days at a time, when his owners have gone away, and he settles in very well – although saying that, I think he would settle in anywhere.
I haven’t actually got any photos of Henry on his own, only some of him and Piper the Labrador (the Hearing Dog for Deaf People puppy, please read my post on him) in the garden.
